Kimberly Jackson

My name is Kimberly Jackson and I’m a 24-year -old student studying to be a medical assistant. I’ve always allowed myself to be the victim of my weight. I would always let that be my excuse for everything that I couldn’t do. I’ve spent that greater part of my 24 years of life battling my obesity. I had come to a point in my life where I honestly had given up. My parents put me in numerous weight loss programs that doctors would recommend, but nothing ever helped.

David Butto

David Butto

My name is David Butto. I am 21 years of age, and I am about to tell you how fitness changed my life. It starts back when I was 8 years old. I was gaining weight very rapidly, and when you're that age, it's nothing too big to overthink. As I got older, the weight never came off, not even when I hit my growth spurt. I was making very poor food choices as I was growing up. I was semi-active in sports in high school, but that didn't seem to matter because the weight kept coming on. By the time I graduated, I was 5'8" and weighed in at 220 lbs. After graduation that year, I put on an additional 20 pounds. At 240 lbs, I was wearing a size XL shirt and a size 38 pants. I didn't know about the harm that I was doing to my body at the time.

My journey started shortly after I married my husband who introduced me to fitness back in August of 2013. I was overweight around this time and had very low self esteem. I had tried all kinds of diets, but I always fell off and went back to old habits. Finally, I remember telling my husband I was ready to change, that this wasn't the way I wanted to live. I knew if I had continued this path, where would I be in 5 years… 10 years? I remember praying and telling God I just wanted to change and that i couldn't make this change without Him.

I am a personal trainer, bikini competitor and director/head coach of a club volleyball team. I became a personal trainer because I know I can make a difference in people’s lives. I have the knowledge (while still learning more everyday) to help people lose/gain the weight and strengthen weak areas. I become so involved in peoples stories (where they started and where they want to end up) that all my time becomes invested in them. The look on the clients face when they work past the doubt to achieve their goal is priceless!

I live my life with the “pay it forward” attitude despite the many ups and downs in my childhood. When I enlisted in the Marines in 2005, I really got into the fitness lifestyle. After three tours, I became inactive in 2010 and decided to donate my time in a different way. As a volunteer at Challenged Athlete Foundation (CAF) in California, I helped provide opportunities for people with disabilities, so they could live an active lifestyle through fitness and athletics. Along with CAF, I assisted Operation Rebound by helping veterans who came back with a disability get back to their lifestyle they had before their accidents.

On January 13th, 2014 I walked into the doctor’s office for my scheduled appointment. During my appointment, I found out that I weighed 485 Lbs. and that was the heaviest I have ever been in my entire life. I also found out that I had severe high blood pressure (Hypertensive) and possible kidney damage. I realized, as I was walking back to my car, that I was a walking ticking time bomb and that I could have had a heart attack, stroke, and/or kidney malfunction at any moment. When I got back to my car I broke down in tears and cried. Later that night I did some serious soul searching and searched deep within myself for the motivation and desire to change. At that point I decided I needed to change my life around.

I love fitness because of the way it makes me feel. Not just physically, but also mentally, coming from someone who's never worked out or been a member of gym before… I wanted to change my life for the better. I started my training with one of our very own SRX Champion Abbey Stratton when I lived in WA and she has taught me a lot about working out and making the right choices when it comes to supplementing what your body needs.
